Write Cycles for Sentinel HL keys

Login and Logout for Features No Longer Perform Write Cycles

 

In earlier versions of Sentinel LDK, the Licensing API functions to log into a Feature or log out of a Feature would perform a write cycle to the protection key. This was relevant for Sentinel HL keys because hardware keys are certified to withstand a specific number of write cycles.

 

Starting with the License Managers provided with Sentinel LDK v.7.0 (Run-time Environment version 6.6.0), login and logout functions no longer perform a write cycle to the protection key.

 

The write cycles are practically only relevant for the hasp_write () API and for the hasp_login ()/hasp_login_scope () operations for counter based licenses as explained below.

hasp_write: When hasp_write() is called, a write cycle is performed for the Sentinel protection key.

 

hasp_login: When hasp_login () is called for a Feature with an expiration date or execution counter, a write cycle is performed for the Sentinel protection key.

 

hasp_login_scope: When hasp_login_scope () is called for a Feature with an expiration date or execution counter, a write cycle is performed for the Sentinel protection key.
